DAF Internal Component Communication

Most DAF components need to communicate with the DAF Engine. This is done with a TCP/IP socket connection using the default IP address of the server and port number 9784 and 9785. Therefore, for DAF to work correctly, the server TCP/IP settings MUST allow connection to this IP Address and port.

If this connection is not allowed, the filter itself will still work correctly and Web authentication will be processed. However, several features of the DAF Configuration Tool, Web User Manager, DAFTools ASP Component, DAF Manager... will fail.

When this connection is refused, the DAF Configuration Tool will report the following error:

13049 bytes

and buttons [Start], [Stop], [Re-Start], [Refresh] and [Reload (ODBC only)] will fail.

How to Find the IP Address used on a IP multi-homed server?

An easy way to find the IP address used by DAF Components is to launch the DAF Configuration Tool and find the IP address listed in the error message "Connection with DAF Engine FAILED! <IP X.X.X.X", Port NNNN>".

The IP Address and port number are also reported in an event sent to the NT Event Viewer when DAF is started:
